i am not sure exactly what you guys mean by back spacing,is that the adapter you put on your rear drum in my case, to make the tire and rim stick out farther so it doesnt hit springs, interested because of my upcoming tire changes. thanks

Back spacing is the measurement from the rear most side of the rim, to the wheel mounting surface, pretty simple

As for wheel spacers, they are a fix basically for not having the correct offset wheel. If you have wheels with the correct backspacing there is no need for a spacer.

You pretty much need to decide how much room you have to run a certain width wheel, then figure out your backspacing then a tire to suit. (You want to make sure the tire you decide on is suited to the width of the wheel you want or can fit)
