Anyone ever done rod and main bearings on a V10 with it still in the chassis. Can I get the oil pan off without waving a magic wand over it ? its a 2500 4 wheel drive and automatic if it matters.

Truck is getting up over 200K on miles on it now . And rattles a little more then I would like when started cold. Plus It takes maybe 10-15 seconds to get oil pressure. Pulling away from a stop I hear a little more noise in the engine than I would like. Like maybe low oil pressure.
Ive already read about loose oil pump cover bolts in the back of timing cover as a a common V10 problem. And I'm planning to take it down this summer to look into this. And while its down maybe roll some new bearings in while the oil pan is off.

You can get the pan off if you move it out of the way and unbolt the pickup tube.I have a 98 4x4 auto I did this too.Slow oil pressure buildup could be a plugged pick up tube.Mine was.It now takes 3 seconds to move the needle.Check your timing chain.Mine is very loose at 86,000.I suspect it is rattling at startup and light throttle.

Thanks.
Planning an oil pump gears and timing chain replacement at same time.
I want to roll some rod and main bearings in while it's opened up.
I really want to keep this truck a few more years.

It pulls my trailer like it's not even there.

I would just do rods, the mains don't see the kind of loads that the rods do generally. Dropping the crank to change the mains adds a lot of work to it.
