The picture below is from a 13,000 mi unrestored 70 Hemi Cuda, and the grommet has a split. I also have another unrestored reference picture from a 70 440-6 Pack Cuda, and the grommet is also split. I can't locate that picture at the moment.
Rob Isn't this grommet in backwards?

I've seen them installed both ways. The question I have is that I have 2 NOS shaker cables and the grommet on both are solid and have the large end with the part number, installed it would be facing the inside. And it would be almost impossible to switch once the cable was assembled.Maybe one of those assy line to over the counter differences? From an assembly standpoint this would make more sense. The line worker slides the cable through the hole and attaches the two handle screws and then plugs in the grommet, all from inside the car. From a manufacturing standpoint, I believe the grommet would need to be installed before the end is crimped/attached. It appears there's already several survivor pics showing the grommet installed either way. My 14,000 survivor had the solid grommet and it was facing the engine compartment.
