I have recently picked up a new project. It is a mini rod pulling tractor that was setup for brand x small block. I would like to use a mopar in it. 370 cu in 8-71 blowers are the basic engine rules. This is a for fun project so have to keep the budget down. I already have a money pit. I have always been a big block guy so I really don't know what is available. What would you build?

Are aftermarket blocks and heads allowed?

Is the rule cubic inch only, or cubic inch small block? You could build a 370in big block.

Rules are 370" engine. I thought about big block but the problem is cost of aftermarket block. I had considered 354 hemi w/ an used set of Allen johnson heads. Will any of the small block chrysler blocks take living over 1000hp on boost? Trying to do this on somewhat of a budget.

IMHO if you need 1000hp you might as well stay home unless you spring for an aftermarket block.

You'd have much better luck with a GIII Hemi. And even that might be on the ragged edge.

One thing's for sure, it's much easier to make 1000hp through a 400cfm port than it is through a 300cfm port.

Good Luck!
R.

A 5.7 Gen3 with a 6.4 crank will give you 372 cubes. The right set of heads will yield 1,000 hp boosted and should hold together fairly nicely. I know turbo guys are pulling more hp than that and living on stock blocks.

Oh yea, if your hooking to a sled a oem block will not be your friend.

1000hp on boost? Trying to do this on somewhat of a budget....

R3 block, w8 or w9 heads and you wouldn't have a problem making 1000 hp. Hard part find a good r3 block.

I have a 365 cu in rotating assembly for a R3 short deck block set-up for twin turbo should you find the need. Should be fine supercharged also. As 1967dartgt already pointed out an R3 with w8-w9 heads 1000hp would be no problem.

This is the cheapest and strongest way to go.
The heads will flow enough for 1000hp without exotic stuff.

My be cheaper but no way a factory gen 3 block is stronger then a R3 block.

5.7 maybe not but hellcat or 6.4 truck block I would say just as strong and cheaper. No silly machining, block is ready to go for 1600.00.
Oh and the biggest advantage is I can get one right now.
