...My Camaro front spoiler was destroyed by a couple cones... The way I understand autocross, you are supposed to drive around the cones. Why? It takes longer.

Toms nickname is Cone Killa Been known for that, a time or 20. There is at least a couple marks on the SS/T truck, and the AMX from the cones. And I left at least a few marks on the cones. One cone was pretty messed up too when it got caught between the tire and the frame and inner fender on the AMX.

MUUMUU,
How much camber do you have? With more neg camber it will move the top of the tire in.
If you have a rear sway bar you will want to disconnect on link for Big Willow if you are already noticing a loose condition in Solo II.
AutocrossCuda can confirm.
Are all 4 tires the same size? if so you can rotate.
Maybe we will give you neg camber at the track!
Tim Not sure on neg camber numbers, but I agree, that should help. Why would I want to remove the rear sway bar? All 4 tires are the same size, but the front and rear wheels have different offsets so I can rotate them front to back.

That's the bottom line or Alltime will put a big rookie X on the back of your car, just like at the races. But, but why? you ask? It's as much about driving as it is about the car. I'll let professional race car driver and National Solo champion Randy Pobst explain Why Understeer is Your Friend On the car side:If you think Frankenduster is speaking from a unique point of view, Steve will tell you from personal experience on that very track. I can tell you from personal experience on roadways (I was younger once). Mike Ritz can tell you from personal experience racing a '66. The list goes on... With the a-bodies, start with no rear bar for high speed. Then as decide if adding a little bar (soft) is wanted.

More on drivingTipping, flipping and even occassionally driving over cones with the wheels will happen. You've got to come as close as possible to some of the key cones to make the distance shorter and the turns smooth. Center punching cones is bad. There's a few causes and indicates potential problems on a high speed, higher risk track. 1. Looking at the cones. The car will go where you look. You must look ahead to where you want the car to go. 2. Course is unclear. The most important thing to do at any event is learn the course. Knowing where to go makes it much easier to look ahead. 3. Overdriving the front wheels. Timing the right amount of speed, braking and power is the goal. Too much speed in any turn, and autocrosses are all turns, and the car goes straight because the front tires are overloaded. A slalom is the one place where it is more likely that too much speed will not centerpunch a cone. In a slalom, too much speed more often results in fishtail and around you go. Looking where you want the car to go is really really important to learn to do. It helps driving and just as important it will help when crashing. After all, you don't want to crash into the tree , but the hopefully safer grassy area next to the trees. Pobst "On Being a Good Crasher"

Yup. At the autocross practice one day the car got loose in the slalom and was fishtailing bad. Got the car straightened out and on around the course. One guy on the sidelines told me I was headed towards a light pole, and did I see it. I said "Yes, but I figured if I watched the pole I'd hit it, so I ignored it." That worked and I missed it.

In regard to looking ahead, I am coming from a background in sportbike racing, but the concepts carry over.
On the straight, I would be looking at the corner entry, once I entered the corner I was focused on the apex, then the corner exit, then the entry for the next turn. Keeping your point of focus as far forward as possibly really helps slow everything down and helps you get set up. This is not to say I wasn't paying attention to brake markers, traffic, surface features, etc. with my periphery, but my focus was always very far ahead.
Have fun! I'm jealous...weather hasn't warmed up enough for anything here yet...I have to live through you guys
