I collect late 50's cars, no muscle cars. If I wanted to build a clone of one of my fathers original factory cars, who would you suggest? I've been going through old pictures my mom had in a scrap book. Since her passing, it has become a bit of a passion project for me to re-create my fathers past. Randy has dad's 68 car and Todd has dads 72 demon. I'd love to create dads first ever mopar race car. We have pictures of it before it was lettered up with the Mr 4 Speed tag. Actually have a picture with the window sticker still in the car, but the car at the drag strip. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Depends on how accurate you want it. If you want over the top correct? Scott Tiemann in Michigan has restored a couple stunners!

Where are you located at? If closer to Michigan there is a fellow that owns an original 990 car and is on the mark with all the nuances of those cars. He does high end restorations and is very good. Let me know if you need his contact info.

Since any car I have won't be dad's original, a clone may make as much sense as anything. Taking another 990 car, that's real and changing it's history, doesn't seem right. Am I crazy?

Well it depends on several things....

If you find a real car that doesn't have a well known history it might be the best way to go investment wise. A really well done clone doesn't usually bring half of what it costs to build when sold. A real car holds its value a lot better.

I guess the best case scenario budget wise would be to buy a well done car (clone or real) and just make the changes needed to match it to your dads car. A tubbed race car will be the cheapest to buy or build in most cases.
