I have an all original unrestored '68 Satellite with 76k original miles. The original owner was a stickler for keeping the car mechanically tuned, so various parts were replaced over the years. I am slowly trying to put the car back how it originally was. My question is... on a '68 Satellite with a 273ci what is the correct style fuel filter that would have come on the car? I see a plastic date coded one and the metal date faded one as well. Thanks! Justin

Please someone more knowledgeable chime in please! I don't think our old Mopars came from the factory with these in-line fuel filters, but most people add them. I "think" you might have just had a brass filter inside the carburetor inlet.

I "think" you might have just had a brass filter inside the carburetor inlet. I wondered that too. I noticed the fuel lines are offered as a one-piece or a two-piece, where an online filter would be used. I just want to do what was correct. Thanks! Justin

I may have just answered my own question. I have a '69 parts manual at work and just checked it. It calls for the metal filter part #2525254. I have a '68 manual at home and will check it this evening.

If it's metal in 69 I would think 68 would also be metal , are you building for 100% OE judging ? OH FYI , that part number you point out is from roughly 1964 or 1965
running up my post count some more .

OK, then the metal can fuel filters are "stock" and those pictures provided by Mattax look familiar from junkyards.... explains the two-piece fuel line thing too.

I checked my '68 parts manual and it gave the same 2525254 part number.
JohnRR, I am not really going for 100% OE judging, but the car is so very original with the exception of a few mechanical things here and there, I've already had people want to look at it for reference... I just figured everything should be "correct" as possible. I just want to replace the parts that have already been replaced it what it originally had.
Mattax, I have seen the red spring clips used as well. I planned on running them as well. Good point. I think the parts vendors like you use the term "OEM Style" for a part that is basically a "service part"... and it somewhat looks the same but would be made by Fram or Wix, or along those lines.
Thanks! Justin

Is there a part number on either of those in that catalog pages that you show ? The plastic one and the metal one both have the part number 2525254 stamped on them. After looking into it a little further, the plastic was used up to 1967 model cars and in 1968 was only on Super Stock cars... otherwise the metal 2525254 filter should be used on 1968-up cars. Justin, If you decide to order the filter, I believe that you are aware that there is a "assembly" line style and the "over the counter" style. The same filter, just a difference in which the date coding is printed in a different position.
