Working on an early B body clutch fan and the blades get left bare aluminum, not painted. Any suggestions on how to get back to the original sheet aluminum look? Polishing is too shiny and I have everything sanded now with 1000 grit and still too dull. Should I polish and work backwards from there to get the original slightly grainy look?

I took one from one of my 66 parts cars for my 67 RT... I glass bead blasted it, then taped off the blades and painted it black..

I am sure I have made the mopar god mad, but it came out very nice.. Still looks good 10 years later....

I would have suggested you have it vapor blasted, but since it has been sanded, I doubt it would work now.

Was not real familiar with vapor blasting, but did some reading and watching videos of it and I agree it sounds like a very good option. I actually have an extra fan that I may send out to be vapor blasted and see how it turns out. Thanks for the suggestion

Any time you have an aluminum piece that you want to look original never sand or glass bead it, cause it changes the texture.

Fan had some scratches and light pitting that may or may not have come out without sanding, maybe should have started with a better core. Seems like most of the vapor blasting results I have seen pictures of on aluminum are cast pieces, will be interested to see how it does on a smooth surface

Need to go look at mine.. Been so long ago that I can't remember. Maybe I taped off the blades and blasted the center, then painted the center?? Getting old sucks...
