Hi
I have a fiberglass cowl hood coming for my 71 Charger. What springs would be best to use? Will the Harwood GM ones work? What tension since a 71 hood isn't small. Would like to buy from Summit since I'm in Canada. Thanks guys.

I didn't want to chance the hood warping and decided to make a cheap prop rod, instead of even using light springs.

I used springs off a Daytona or similar small car from junk yard, $15.

I have made mine with garage door springs...they make different weight springs, and Ace Hardware is where I got mine. Worked great!

Ooops I was talking for an A body. Guess I should've read your post a little better?

There used to be a guy on here selling springs for fiberglass hoods. I think his name was atomic dog?

I may do a prop rod as well since the hood is so darn long. Not sure if there is a spring that will hold it up without too much tension when closed.

Part of the decision is how stiff is the hood where the spring attaches. Unless it's specifically reinforced (extra layer, thin plate etc.) for a spring anything but a really light spring will bow it.

I wouldn't use a spring at all, puts too much stess on the 'glass. Check this out:

Thanks. That's what I'm going to do. Great idea.
