Anyone know anything about them or have any dealings with them? Mopar friendly? Opinions, observations etc. I'm looking to have a shortblock built and am looking for a builder near Indy and their name has come up.
Thanks!!

I don't have any experience with Hawkins but Promax builds Mopar engines and they are on the west side of Indy. Ben now has his own dyno too.

save yourself some grief and do it yourself. i have no faith in any shop in the indy area screwing my engines together.

Well, since I've never built my own engine, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't know if what I'd be doing was right. I've never shortblocked a motor before, but have done pretty much everything else. Just not real confident I guess, and was hoping someone would have a competent motor builder they could recommend.
I'll give Promax a look too! Thanks.
Anyone else?

I dont know about Hawkins as I just found out about them within the last week and was going to check them out as they have good prices on the web.
I usually do most of my own work but have had people recomend Kammer & Kammer. They are located in Huber Heights Ohio not too far off I70. http://www.kammerracing.com/kmr/Default.asp
A guy I met a local cruise was telling me how the helped install a new Hemi in his 64 Fury Convertable. They even used there chassie dyno to set it up for more fun.

PM Maxie. I'm pretty sure Hawkins did the work on his Hemi.

only go to A&A to buy parts, and then make sure you keep your back to the wall or you'll get bent over in a heartbeat.

Mopar in the blood or not, all he cares about is money.

fasthawk6, I'm from the Cincy area and stopped in at Bishoff's last fall and they acted like I was bothering them. They said they'd get back to me with a plan and a price and never called me back. I also talked to Ellison's last summer as he had built a Pontiac motor for my brother in law and was very happe. He told me he was getting out of the business?? Not familiar w/ D&D though, where are they located?
(Nice Dart, by the way!)

Kammer's is awesome! They are extremely talented. Bob has many records and yet is a regular guy. The pedigree cannot be argued. They are the nicest, most thorough folks you can find in this business. Family owned and extremely helpful and fairly priced. They remain helpful after the sale too. Built my 440 years ago and still running strong. Help my buddy get his 351 powered Maverick into the low 11's. I personally would consider them first. Good luck...

I have had past and positive dealings with Hawkins Speed Shop a number of years ago when Sam was still working for Hawkins. Sam is now with Indy Cylinder Heads. Watch out for Kammer & Kammer. In the Dayton area, the best engine shop seems to be Parsons High Performance Engine Service. They do a lot of the Mopar engines in this area. Their phone number is ( 937 ) 228 2278. Speak to either Bruce Parsons or " Hot Rod " Myers.

Good luck...

I 'am from Richmond...Hawkins has been around forever. They do good work and are mopar friendly. Ask for "Sam the Cuda Man". He'll take of you.

Sam is no longer there, ne is at Indy cylider heads and is a member here. You can pm sam here he is ichsam. I will send a copy of this post to him. I dealt with Hawkins while sam was there. Gary is the engine builder there and does the machine work. I had the machine work on my 426 max wedge done there, a 340 six pack out of our t/a, the 340 in our 71 cuda and my hemi was built there. So I have spent quit a bit of money there over the last 8 years.

I am from Indy and have had a few dealings with hawkins for parts, but not the machine shop side. If the parts side is anything like the machine shop, i'd rather get screwed by Indy or A&A.

As for building a Mopar engine....do it yourself!!!!!!!!!

Buy the parts you want..get the machining done (double check everything)..and build it! its not near as hard as your making it out to be. If your near Indy I'll help ya out all i can. Have built a few performance big blocks, not played too much with small blocks, but its not that much different.

Like I said, you wanna do it and save some $$$, shoot me an email, always willing to help out another moparite.
