I have a 5.2 from a 92 Dodge van and am wondering if an oil pan from a 76 Dodge 318 will work on the 5.2 magnum? Also, would it be best to use the flexplate that's already on the magnum engine or can I use the flexplate from the LA 318? I want to be able to bolt a 74 904 up to the engine. I also have been looking at changing the cam but don't know what to go with? We plan on running the engine in a 34 Dodge with a 904 trans. Rear gear ratio is 3:00, tires are 235/75/15. We would like something with a nice lope and decent idle. Car will be used as a driver in and out of town. We have read some about cam selections but don't want to go with a cam that requires cutting the guides. We would like to run a mechanical fuel pump as well. We are switching the engine over to carburated with dual exhaust. We have a Carter AVS 625 CFM carb and want to double check if this cfm is a good one?

Thanks for the advice.

Erick

The flex plate can be used and is stronger than a regular flex plate but only if you use a newer style mini starter.

The pan won't fit, an LA 360 pan will fit or any magnum V8 pan.

the sales ad got me with idles like a funny car smooths out 1600-1800 rpms...thats just what I wanted a poser cam for the cruz in car shows

do you need a rear sump pan for a 34?

either way a 360 pan works..car or truck pan

I think that the magnum flex plate can be made to work with the 904. There is one hole that doesn't quite line up and you can wallow it out so it bolts up.

You have to change the front of the motor to the la style to put in a mechanical pump. There is an adaptor you can buy to bolt up to the front of the cam so you have an ecentric to run the fuel pump. But I think you loose all the serpentine belt stuff that way.

Exhaust from a truck about the same year should work fine. You could also see how the van exhaust lines up.

get some GM 3100/3400 V6 springs and retainers, for a cam, I'd look at a comp XR258HR. I'd get it custom ground on a long snout core so you can run the mechanical fuel pump (or just get the $18 snout extension from mancini).

as others have said, to run a mechanical pump, you'll need to ditch the serpentine drive and run an LA timing cover/accessory drive.

oil pan is common with all 360's.
