I have a bone stock 1969 340 running off manifolds. The motor was rebuilt about 5 years ago. The motor always ran like a top but has continuously smoked and used oil like crazy since the day I purchased it from a friend. Rear main seal has always leaked, tranny needed a rebuild too so enough was enough and I pulled the drive train yesterday afternoon.

I was relatively happy with the stock horsepower for this car which is a ragtop cuda that I drive as a daily driver. It has J heads and RPM Edel. carb, tti 2 1/2 exhaust. I am just looking for a step up in the cam as the idle was a little mild with the stock cam. What is the best cam for what I am doing with this car. It is a four speed. I do not know the specifics on the prior build. My fried just said it was basically a stock build.

Thank for any help.
Reid

a simple upgrade would be a comp 268H high energy cam...along with their springs.

The stock cam that came out of one of my 69 340 Swingers mapped out at...444/429 with a 210/220 duration@50 on a 114 centerline.
at least you now know what a stock factory cam was.

I am amazed how well the Comp Cams 268 cam runs! Really it is not a wild cam and I believe its not ground for the mopar .904" lifter. None the less that grind is putting out some awesome 1/4mile times. Sounds like the right cam for you. Lets you retain your tried and true stamped rocker arms and maybe even your existing valve springs-?

Thank you for the info.

Looks like alot of you like the Comp. 268 cam.

I just read the article. That is exactly what I am looking for. I will print this out and use this for my build. Thanks Again.

Reid.

Thanks for the info. I'm in the process of rebuilding my 34 also. The guy doing my engine work has mentioned the Com 267 also. I'll give him a copy of the article.
thanks,
