I purchased the Fel Pro 1213 Intake manifold gasket for my small block which Ive never used before.

Typically I use those fel pros wit hthe blue surfaces. With the blue ones, i dint use any rtv or adhesvise on the intake to head surfaces- just along the front and rear rails and in the corners.

The fel pro 1213 is a fiber like gasket with rubber rings around the intake and water ports. the cross over port is covered.

The instructions say to use a QUICK DRYING adhesive around the ports to hold it on. It says small amount of Silicon can be used around the water ports. Then you bolt down the intake until the glue dries and then remover it and cut the gasket to fit the ports.

So what kind of QUICK DRYING adhesive is recommended?

The glue is just to keep the gaskets from moving when you install the intake. It`s not for sealing anything. Some intake gaskets come with the plastic inserts to hold them in place. I have always used Mr gasket paper type gaskets with no sealer except some silicone in the 4 corners. Are you having a problem with sealing?

I have a set of those & the raised blue sealing edge comes very close to the inside perimeter of the gasket intake port openings. If the port opening is small(er) enough than the head/intake that it needs to be trimmed I'd use super glue on either side of each pair of ports out toward thebolt holes to glue it solid, trim them them, then with a thin putty knife peel them off & any residual super glue will not be near the port openings & hold it up & cause a leak at the ports. my fav(permatex #2) around the intake ports(both sides of the gasket) and on the water ports in the front & RTV instead of the cork gaskets (front/rear).

I used a very thin film of blue Permatex RTV around the water ports to hold them in place. My heads were port matched to those gaskets so all I did was line them up. I ran those gaskets on my old 340 too and they did eventually burn through at the cross over. Edelbrocks don't have a cross over so I don't have to deal with that now.

ya, im still trying to figure out the best way to block the ports. Im going to pick up a couple of block off plates they use on the Bbig blocks to see if they will work. If not, i may just cut out a section of that gasket an put in some exhaust manifold (metal) gasket material.

I dont like the original idea of stuffing the opening with aluminum foil after looking at how its set up

Edelbrock Gasgacinch will hold the gasket down to the head, but you will not be able to remove it in once piece after it dries. It does work very well though.

Get some 20 gauge sheet metal from Lowes or Home Depot, cut a square, use some sealer to hold in place, and then put gaskets down. Those 1213 gaskets are thick and squishy so it shouldn't cause sealing problems.

I think I have some old stainless steel block off plates laying around. If you want I can look for them?

that's what I did was cut out a section of the felpro fiber intake gasket at the crossover hole & epoxy a square of thick metal to cover the holes(both sides)
