I have a couple weeks before my trans pan is here so I have to get a transbrake switch and wire it up. My plan is to use the back up light side of my neutral safety switch so I don't have to hold down a button to back up. Also have a push button switch on the shifter for racing that is fed by a toggle switch.

I understand that my back up lights are going to come on whenever I use the button. Will it hurt anything for it to back feed to the button when the transmission is in reverse? or do I need a diode to prevent it from back feeding? Any better ideas?

Thanks.

Nope. I don't think feedback is an issue as 12V only goes as far as the button. I have my back up lights hooked to the T/B circuit. I actually have two T/B circuits providing 12V to the solenoid. One is for backing up on a momentary switch on the panel. I've never had a problem in this area.

We ran on backup lights on 65 dart. The power was supplied tgrough headlight switch. It would trip the thermal in switch if we stayed in reverse too long.

A solid state relay would be best. No loss of reaction time on launch as no hot wires in backup curcuit.

So trigger the relay with the back up lights?

Yes but just from the 3-pole switch on the trans. You can fuse the 12V from the launch button but I wouldn't run that through a relay.

Ok. This car gets driven on the street a bunch so I plan on powering the button off a toggle switch to keep from accidentally engaging the button. I also have to run a wire from the button to the two step in my Digital 6 Plus.
