Hi all,

I am sure this is a dumb question, but...

I would like to test an aftermarket fuel level gauge with my 1970 Super Bee's fuel sending unit (currently installed in the tank). Before going through the trouble of mounting the gauge inside, can I just test the reading by routing a power wire (from the positive terminal of the battery for example), and then attach a wire directly to the Sending Unit bolt at the tank? (and ground the gauge, of course). Will this make the gauge operate?

For the "Sending unit to gauge" wire itself, can I just secure a the wire directly to the sending unit post (by say, wrapping it at the post?) - I only have the one pig-tail wire connector that goes from the sending unit to the stock gauge and didn't want to take that apart just yet.

Hope that makes sense! Thanks much for any tips!

That'll work but you don't need to ground the gauge housing. A hot wire from the battery to gauge and a wire from the other terminal on the gauge to the sender will work as long as the tank is properly grounded to the chassis.

so aftermarket fuel gauges are meant to operate on 12-14 volts as opposed to stock mopar's average of 5 volts via the voltage limiter?
