My fuel gauge is eternally reading low on my Warlock and I need to get that fixed as I will be daily driving it. I've changed out the cluster voltage regulator to a solid-state 5v, I am getting 5v to the sending unit and I made a new ground for the sending unit...no improvement.

1) What is the best way to access the unit? Pull the bed wood, or drop the tank?

2) What can I do for a sending unit? It seems like these are hard to come by, is this it? ***Link*** I am not sure what size my tank should be [short wheelbase, 360, 2wd].

I say drop the tank - they almost always need cleaning anyway.

And yes that unit is pretty much the only out there right now Mother Mopar has not made them in a while.

Thanks, I'll start spraying down the hardware to remove the tank. The linked sending unit calls for a 18gal tank, for some reason I thought it was a 20.

If the float is the problem go to Ford.They had ones for Vans sday like 98 or so.I had a bunch and they were some plastic that never went bad.I pulled at least 10 when I changed senders etc on them.used some and have no idea where I put the rest.Rocky

If you can find a NOS unit I would recommend it. I got mine from Len Dawson just a couple months ago for not much more then the repo. Part number is 4240277. If you remove the drive shaft you will have plenty of room to drop the tank.

If the gauge is always reading low, it may not be a bad sending unit, the float could be bad, or the float arm could be out of adjustment. You need to pull the sending unit either way, but I think once its out, I would check to see if moving the arm results in the gauge reading properly.

Years ago, when I dealt with this stuff often, about 50% of the time, the float or float arm adjustment was the cause of a consistent high or consistent low reading. It the reading was all over the place, or would not function at all some times, the sending unit was often the issue. Gene

Thanks, I was wondering how frequently a float would fail. Somewhere I have the old sending unit from my Cuda that I could steal the float from. I may try that first, the gauge just constantly reads low. Full ~= 1/2 on the gauge.

sending unit in my truck was fine, i replaced the float with a brass ford float.
the factory gauge read way high.
i put an autometer gauge in it. been fine since...

and while you have the tank off replace the front to rear brake line, and check the frame, the tank holds in a lot of crap in that area.
