I'm replacing the rear seal on my 727 trans. The one on it had no dust boot on it and I am replacing it with a Timken 7300S which has the dust boot like Chrysler originally used. Question: There is a small hole in the dust boot. What clocked position should this hole be in when the seal is installed. And why? Thanks.

I also thought the hole should be at 6 oclock functioning as a "drain". But in doing a search on Moparts, the only reference I found stated it should be up. So that was why I was asking and what might be the logic behind it's positioning.

Its a dust boot, the hole lets air or water out, if you put hole on top it could only let water in if you put it on the bottom yea water could get in but it will also let the water escape.

That was what I thought but I saw a previous post here on Moparts stating the hole goes up. OK, thanks for the feedback.
