Brite tips on a GTX, yes...resonators on a 440+6 non-California 71 GTX, no.

N41, dual exhaust, N42, bright tips (generally speaking, standard equipment on a GTX Non-California car).
Resonators, like most people responded, were a california only thing.
TTI, Accurate Exhaust LTD, main suppliers.
Look for moparts members sellers, may find a discount code or sale.

Was the N97 Noise Reduction Package available on that combo? And couldn't it be ordered tip delete? And would that be called out on the tag or would that be a build sheet thing?

N97 was what I was referring to as a California car. An N97 optioned 440+6 GTX would have the resonators and tips (tips were standard, not an option on the GTX). The code for noise reduction does show up on the fender tag.

While that FY1 GTX is a very nice looking car, it is not factory correct including the resonators and the repop fender tag...and those appear to be charger exhaust tips.

Incorrect repop tag on the FYI car...has a code on it that never shows up on fender tags and is missing the CTD code for a 2 tag car...
My intent isn't to tear that car apart, only to show that it was not restored to factory correct.

it is not factory correct And you would know this how??? - I own a survivor 440+6 (road runner) car that still has one original tip and no resonators. - I've looked at other original cars - The parts catalogue only lists resonators for HEMI cars and 440+6 cars with noise reduction

Just to be clear, N97 may have been required for Kalifornia cars, but it was also an option available for all states.
And the tips could be deleted, but I don't remember if that was called out on the tag.
So, in the end, the car could have been built with or without resonators and with or without tips. If it was bound for sale outside Kalifornia.

N97 was a no-cost option that was required for 440+6 4spd cars delivered to California. N42 was included in the GTX package and did not need to be checked off on the order form. N97 440+6 cars did get N42 tips. Since this was a standard feature (an option for road runners), there is no box on the order form to delete the tips. Optioning the N97 code on a 440 4bbl car did eliminate the N42 tips from all the fender tags I have seen. I have not seen an original N97 440 4bbl car (with original exhaust) to confirm this.

I have a copy of the build sheet from a St Louis built GTX I owned years ago. It was a 440-4 car with the N97 package. N97 is called out on the build sheet and the N42 slot is blank. I had always thought that the tips had been deleted when the car was ordered. But I realize now that it was tip delete due to the N97 choice.

The buildsheet for my car has N41 and N42 options listed but not N97. For it to be correct then, it should have exhaust tips and no resonators, right? From my research, yes that would be correct.
