OK here it is--Got this car with the strut rods in but no bushings installed,So i ordered some from a Dodge dealer in illonois from the web, they sent me 1-piece bushings look like a cone with a ridge where they would set in the k-frame front hole,They sent no washers, nuts e.t.c.-I had nuts on the struts already--Called them they said these are the new style bushings they should press right in--YEA RIGHT 3hrs later here i am asking for help "HOW "I've tried pressing them in with a sleeve and nut all they do is compress and will not go into the hole,I soaked them down to lubricate and still will not go IF anyone has done this DO U HAVE ANY PICS????

Can you post a picture of your bushings?
What car, year and model?

IIRC when i did this i put the bushing on the rear side of the hole and used the OEM washers and nuts for the strut rods, and just tightened them up, and it formed right into the proper shape. They do work. The poly bushings are different though.

RapidRobert,
It looks like they install from the front and then you insert the metal spacer tube. Is that correct?

swifter,
Do your bushings have metal liners in them? If so, you will need to remove the liners before instaling the rubber bushings.

Snoop I have had these sitting around for so long that I forgot exactly what app I bought them for but I am only into A bodies & I remember when I got the (2) top ones that I thought these cant be right. but yes as you said I would be inclined to think that they go in from the front.EDIT the top(2) have "7027" on them, no brand name & I never did use them.

I changed mine on a 68 Dart that I used a 73 sb k frame in

I took a screw driver to the new rubber bushing and worked it the hole in the frame then slid the strutrod in it with the old washer on the back then clamped it down on the front of strutrod with the other washer

think I used alittle wd40 also

might put it on the rod and see if you can pull it through as you tighten it down with the washer on the Strutrod

napa said that bushing was an updated deal and would not use the metal sleeve, made to be more easy to install

wasnt that bad IIRC,it has been a while

just go slow with the screwdriver and you gotta collapes the rubber and work it into the hole on the frame..sorta like working a groumet into something

should have a groove for the frame to sit in when it is installed,so it got a bushing on both sides of the frame to hold itself kinda centerd then the washers compress from both side on the rod,I tighten mine till I had no more thred on the bar and it was right on the $ for alinment

before alinement one wheel was a 1/2" futher back on one side with a bad bushing

thats how I did it any ways

you need to jack up the front end, undo /take out the tbar adjusting bolts, undo the LCA front nut, take the clip out of the rear tbar socket, take off front wheels/tires, then pry between the kmember & LCA to move the LCA backwards & dont forget to measure EXACTLY the ride height on each side so you can crank the tbars back up to their exact position. It's alot of work so see if you can move the strut rods(center them) in the hole in the kmember so you can R&R the bushings without having to do all of that.

whoa here. Those cone looking bushings are not suppose to fit all the way into that hole. Put the cone end towards the frame, put your big cupped washer on there, and then tighten the nut. This thing will deform into the round donut looking bushing that is suppose to be there. That is all there is to it. I will admit it looks all wrong, you can't hardly believe they will deform correctly, but that is what you do. Done several.

Yes to Rapid Roberts question, the pointy end goes toward the rear of the car from the front (this is with the strut rod sticking through the K frame. Then the cupped washer goes on and the nut is tightened until you run out of thread on the strut rod. As I recall the cupped washer hits a shoulder on the rod and the nut holds it against it.
