The 68 D code blocks (from a 1968) car partial VIN is stamped on the top rearmost flange of the motor where it mates up with the trans/bell housing just behind the oil sending unit location. Sometimes it is hard to read because it's a rounded cast surface and the stamping was not easy to make in that area. The numbers on the bottom of the block are date code and assembly type info. A 426 block from a 1969 car would have the partial VIN stamped on the same area as a 1969 440 block. It's possible that s 69 motor could have a 68 casting date but a 426 motor out of a 1968 car will have the stamping on the top rear flange of the block.

yes, the block should be partial VIN stamped "same as 440HP". the entire 1968 model year's b-body 383 4bbl, 383HP, 440HP, HEMI & their associated transmissions SHOULD be partial VIN stamped with last 8-digits (YEAR * PLANT * SERIAL NUMBER). /6, 318, 383 2bbl & their associated transmissions will NOT be VIN stamped. the HEMI will also have engine assembly data "MN426" stamped on the bottom of the starter flange. let us know what you find

As long as we're talking about engine VINs here, I have a question. Everyone talks about partial VINs, but I have several engines and transmissions that have the full VIN stamped on them. They are all 69 model year. I currently have 2 426 Hemis, a 440 HP, a 383 HP, a Hemi 4 speed, a 23 spline a body 4 speed and at least one 727 auto that have full VINs. All have Serial #s below 275,XXX. I also have one 23 spline a body 4 speed with only a partial VIN, but it's Serial # is over 300,XXX. While most are from the St Louis plant (G code), 2 of them are from Hamtramck, and I have seen other full VIN blocks and transmissions on the Mopar Lost and Found Facebook page, at least two from Lynch Road. Can anybody shed some light on this?

Neither of my Hemis have anything stamped on the upper pad except the WT stamp. Is that common? They have the assembly date info on the starter ear, date codes look right. It depends on the year

the May '69 RR shouldn't have its full VIN stamped on engine/trans the FULL VIN stampings are from the beginning of the model year until some time in January 1969 (all Charger 500s = FULL VIN & all Charger Daytonas = partial VIN) got pics?
