Well the 380 horse crate magnum put out 400 on the dyno when one of the mopar mags put it through its paces with some tuning. But I thought those ones already had a less than streetable cam. If you wanted 450 and streetable, I think I'd be looking into a stroker crank.

This 340 we did made 455HP and 400TQ. 10:1, comp cam:244-252@ .050, street ported edelbrocks, victor intake, 950HP carb.
360 should do at least that.

Nice numbers, but I wouldn't say that fits the "it will be driven most on the street" line in the original poster's question.

Well, this guy drives it on the street every day! It eats pump gas, and idles good with the 950HP carb. "Street" is very very vague...like saying I have a red car....

True that. Must have one heck of an idle in a 340 package.

a few corrections to the hotrod article. the 380 horse motor doesn't have different pistons that stock trucks or the 300 HP crate motor.

the advertised specs of the 300 horse crate motor were actually slightly smaller than the specs listed in my dad's '97 FSM for his old truck.

the differences between the 300 & 380 crate motor: intake and cam. the valve springs on both are the .525" lift MP pieces.

450 out of a magnum 360 I'd do this: KB107 pistons set at 0 deck, (figures out to 10.6:1 compression) get the heads ported some, or at least a good 5 angle valve job--the bowl and valve job were drastically undersized from the factory, you'll want to open it up to ~85% of the intake valve diameter. figure out a decent valve spring package, and look for a cam in the 230-240@.050 duration range.
