I got in my Ram the other day and when I shifted into drive and started out it clearly wasn't in first gear. It felt like it never shifted for the entire trip, and set off the check engine light. When I got home I hooked it up and threw these codes:

P0700 - Transmission Control System Malfunction

P0734 - Gear 4 ratio incorrect

P0876 - Trans Fluid Pressure Sensor/Switch D Ckt Rng/Perform

I am not by any means an auto trans expert, so what is going on here?

A common issue on the 48re is the shift solenoid and or transducer fail. Symptom is that it starts out in 3rd gear. Usually replaced in pairs. I did mine with an upgraded borg warner solenoid. About $100 and a couple hours of work. Only need to drop the pan. I did a filter and flush at the same time. Adjusted the bands etc.

You are assuming it's a 48re. Is it a hemi or Diesel? It will be a RFE style trans if hemi powered.

Needs the solenoid pack replaced. Guess I'll flush it and change the filter, etc while it's open, too.
