Due to fire codes many shows do not allow cars to have any fuel or at most a bare minimum before the fire inspector will sign off. I'm guessing that's what the "less gas" is for.

Y93 71 Show car Finish B/ less gas
Y97 70 Show car Finish 3 gallons gas

That's all i got and I can't explain that.

I think they may be sales codes charged to the customer. Show Car finish A or B as per listed price on a pricing schedule somewhere less the gas which is charged as extra and delivered to or picked up the customer with a full tank. Code Y97 no designation for the finish as it was the same treatment for the entire year only they charged for 3 gallons minimum of gas delivered to or picked up by the customer.

Y97 on a 1973 Challenger invoice, no mention of 'show car finish' & it is a Y14 car also, so not a 'show car'.

Y97 on a 1973 Duster invoice, no mention of 'show car finish' once again.

This one is also a Y14 car, so not a 'show' car'.

The codes I listed above are the correct Mopar option codes from 1969-1971.

I don't have anything for 1972 and later.

I'm just using it as a reference to help out OP question and everyone else who is interested in this Y9# business.

I did not post anything from earlier, just 1973 cars because that is what I have available so far?

I am still looking though.

Apparently some cars were delivered with a Y91 and Y92 show car finishes. I've found a few references to Superbirds, GTXs, Chargers etc.

Scroll down to the very bottom of the page after clicking on the link above to see where the Y codes are found on the broadcast sheet. Yeah I know, it's a 71 Super Bee. i'm still looking too.

I skipped over broadcast sheets & went to invoices because invoices offer a description (however brief) while broadcast sheets do not.

Here's what Dan at Chrysler said:

Show car aka y93 could have been a few things:
1. Extra care taken to dress overall appearance (exterior paint) interior trim/finish inspection
This tag could have showed up for a few reasons:
A. Dealer showroom floor model
B. Show circuit car
C. Press fleet car
D. Special order paint (maybe a way to limit/resolve orange peel)

I asked him about A, B & gas and am waiting on a response. I'll invite him to the party.
