Are there any exhaust manifolds that will work with a 383 in a 69 Dart besides the factory big block A body ones? I've heard you can use the B body hi-perf manifolds but need to trim the steering column shaft outer tube back closer to the firewall. Anyone does this or resolved this problem before? Thanks!! If you don't have the correct manifolds why not use the Schumacker headers.

I don't think you'll have that problem with the Schumacker headers

You will have even more room with a 383!! Those are great pics & appears to be a beautiful car based on the under hood pics! That is the exact info I was looking for. Thank you!!!

You have to make sure that your column is a late 68 or 69 as columns did change, it must be like the picture above or you will need to find one like it. Even with the right column you can still have some issues with the bushing melting or getting hard and falling apart. If you don't drive it too much it will be fine, but if it is your daily then you can have issues.

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

add me to the list (HP manifolds in 383 69 valiant). been a few years so I dont remember if I had to trim the column but I don't remember doing so. get the good 68-70 B body HP ones. the max wedge iron manifolds would likely (??) fit & flow even better than them & have 3" outlets but will run close to a grand at Mancini. EDIT www.bigblockdart.com has the part numbers

I don't think you'll have that problem with the Schumacker headers I agree. They're not long tubes and Schumacher makes some high quality stuff. I was going to use these for my big block swap into an M body and the only reason I decided against it is the tubes are only 1 5/8". Not enought for a 512 build, but would be great for a 383.

You could put a bearing instead of a bushing in there.

I had a '70 Dart with a 383 in it. C body logs fit very well.

I just bought a beater 1970 Polara with a great running 383. I am considering a swap into a 67 Dart that currently has a 360 & 904. This 383 has log style manifolds but I do have a pair of C body HiPo manifolds could use....but they have cracks. Are they repairable? I'd just use the log manifolds if I knew they'd clear. Where are the cracks?

I have a driver side A body big block manifold. It’s a date coded 67. Had to repair the front mounting ear due to it breaking off. Lessons learned, it’s a good idea to take the sharp edges off the front and rear mounting ears. It will reduce the chances of getting a crack.
To make the repair I had the area of the break fusion welded. One I got it back I had the mating surface machined. All that’s left is to whittle down the remaining weld until I get close to the original shape of the tab. Very time consuming being that I have to use a dermal.
I know the repair appears ugly but with a little messaging it will look better.
