awesome car!!! there is a 72 H code/auto FY1 twister here locally. its a 2 owner car and the 2nd owner bought it when it was about 6 months old. i did decode the tag for him a long time ago and it was a super low production number at about 100040 or so if i remember rightly. its in a bodyshop here, i think the bodyguys said 2 weeks, that was about 4 or 5 years ago. heated storage i suppose. Quote:
There were a few 340 twisters sent to Canada in 72 and the performance hood treatment (V21) was available in 72 also. The original owner of this car tells me that the "ladder stripe" was rolled up and in the glove compartment when it came in! The selling dealer,Swartzwalds in Alexandria Mn. was supposed to apply the decal during prep but when the owner came to pick up the car, flustered over it, he told them he would do it himself. This car was special ordered which did not include power front disks. It showed up that way and the owner was not charged for it! Oh and since it was destined for Mn. it also showed up with a block heater! I didn't know this until a month after I purchased the car. A testament to how this car was cared for is evident in that it spent most of its life in snowy, salty Mn. Just inside for the most part! Dave

Thanks Chris! Most guys think that Ma Mopar never installed a 340 in a twister back in the day, but we know they did! From what I know the few that were produced were never sold here....a sheep in wolves clothing if you will.........Mine will be under the "Survivor" tent at The all Chrysler Nationals in Carlisle Pa. July 10,11,12 do you plan on attending? Dave

Dave, you made arrangements to have it in the survivor tent at Carlisle? You usually have to send in pics etc ahead of time to be accepted. The cars that are excepted are all listed in the Chryslers at Carlisle literature with a brief descriptions of each car. Quite an honor to have a car be put in that tent because each applicant is reviewed and only true survivors are excepted. Its always a great display every year. And like I said before I don't ever recall seeing a 340 4 spd Duster in the survivor tent.

For 72,71 the 340 decal did not touch the stripe above it.....I believe 70 did however.....and the 340 decal did in fact go below the body line that you mention...for reference look at any vendors stripe/decal, Year one would be a good reference....

That new stance looks much better..I just got the battery too, at first I thought it was too tall to close the hood... , but It worked, I guess they were alot taller than today's Sears diehard,,

This is the first time I noticed. It looks like it has manual steering. Darn! That's too bad.
And that detracts from THIS car how?? : )

Of all the survivor cars that I have seen, I could count the number of 340 Dusters on my hand. They are just that hard to come by. This is just an amazing machine. It needs nothing and I'm glad that you actually drive it I have a 1971 Duster Twister in the GA4 Winchester Grey/Black stripes. Just a 318 car with the 3 speed. It's the only Twister I have ever seen in that color combo. No options either except for the am radio, twister package, and drip rail moldings. Yes it's manual steering to. As we say in the south, "aint nothing like manual steering"

This Duster is in amazing original condition with the factory applied Lemon Twist (FY1) paint, upgraded black interior & original 340 engine & A833 Heavy Duty 4- speed transmission. The car has 46,000 documented miles and I have two of the original E-70 14 polyglas tires. The drive train is untouched and has never been out of the car. This car was special ordered by the original owner,(of whom I am in contact with) from Swartzwalds Chrysler Plymouth in Alexandria Mn. The options he chose were, 340 h.p. package,HD cast iron A833 transmission(Chrysler went to aluminum in 73)with a Hurst shifter, interior upgrade package, tinted windows, power front disk brakes, undercoat w/hood insulation pad(still there) rear mounted speaker with fader control and the high impact, extra cost option paint, Lemon Twist Yellow. Instead of the 340 graphics package he decided to go with the beltline molding to protect his baby from door dings and such. The second owner,a dentist located in Rockford Ill and the person I purchased the car from, had the 340 stripes and callouts applied & the moldings professionally removed in 1999. I have the original 6 side moldings and they are in like new condition. The car was sold in 1999 to the dentist with 36,000 miles on the odometer as shown on a copy of his title. He had put approx 9,000 miles on the car before my purchase Nov 2008. This car was featured in the Muscle car Profile section (pg50)in the October issue of Hemmings Motor News. It was photographed July 9th of this year by Geoff Stunkard of Muscle Car Review magazine for an upcoming issue. To find one of these vehicles today in this condition is almost impossible.

A lot of great pics and info here, thanks for sharing.
Might have missed, but what is the story on finding the car, and how it ended up this way?
Rick.
Rick, I found it in Hemmings Sept 2008...the second owner had it listed..after talking to the original owner I purchased the car sight unseen and had it enclosed shipped to my location....Dave

I just skimmed the article, but I think it said the hood treatment was added? yet it shows on your window sticker. Was there a different hood treatment in 72 for 340 vs twister?
Beautiful car
Yes it is a V21 car....MCR got that part wrong but that's ok...I didn't mind
