Hughes used to offer that modification to the single plane M1 intake. As I recall, tested on a 600hp 452 with stage 6 heads against one without that modification showed it to be worth around 5hp.

I was going off memory from your build. Was it in the 5hp range, or was there more difference than that?

I have found 15 HP on a Strip Dominator.

I have found 15 HP on a Strip Dominator. Care to share details? I don't think there ever was a Strip Dominator for the RB motor. My guess is he's talking about a SB manifold.

I see that word "strip" now. I know the "Street" Dominator can be improved with some work, just wasn't sure 15 HP was the number.

Missed the BB part.
If the top looks the same, there is some power there. The SD looks like it will take a TQ but it won't. So it isn't actually a spread bore intake or a square bore.
Not sure how many of them I've done but it's over a dozen and it isn't 350 dollars worth of welding.

I converted one for use with a 4500 carb in like 1990.
I milled the perimeter of a piece of plate to be the same as the perimeter of the carb mounting pad, butt welded it all the way around. Then opened up the center to the size of a 4500 carb gasket and blended it, then butt welded the inside together as well, and blended/polished the weld down.
It worked really well at the time. I tried it on a friends mid-10 second roller cammed 446 powered Cuda. He was running a TM7 with an 850dp on a 2" spacer. Did the swap at the track, this intake and an 1150 I had dialed in on another 446 on the dyno. Picked up like .25 and 3mph. He said it felt way better with this intake on the motor.
It still just looked like a SD intake at the time, but a few years ago I thought I needed to make it look a little better, so I cut off a bunch of the extra "stuff" these manifolds have.
I wasnt up for polishing out all the grinder marks, so I painted it.

Some day, I'm going to do the same thing to a SB Strip Dominator.
Almost did it this time but decided against it.

I still have it, and I probably flowed it at some point, but don't recall any of that info.
It wouldn't flow as well as, or likely make as much power as a Victor with an adapter for a 4500. The benefit of this intake is it isn't all that tall(1-1/4" taller than a std SD), and retains the tipped carb pad.
When I did this manifold, there werent any ootb manifolds for a bb mopar running a 4500 carb. It wasnt too long after I did mine that I saw the weiand team g 4500 became available.
As I recall, when I did the first E head tests this piece was a bit better(6-8hp iirc) than an m1 4150 with a 2" adapter on it, when tested on a 600hp 448.

I know Streetwize has done some modifications and testing on a street dominator intake. Maybe he will chime in and post some pics. I followed his suggestions and home modified one a few years ago. Most of the work was in the plenum area and blend into the runners. I never personally did any before or after testing, but the plenum area does have a lot of material that can be removed for a smoother shot to the runners.

So you turn an out-of-the-box intake carb flange like the first pic into something like Hughes did in the 2nd pic? What do you charge for this type of job?
