The back of the heater/AC/blower switch on 68-70 B-Bodies is connected to a "harness" of rubber vacuum hoses. These vacuum hoses actuate the vacuum pots bolted to the heater/AC box.

My service manual shows orifice number 6 (top row, middle nipple) at the back of the vacuum switch is connected to "vacuum source". But where exactly is this source? Is there supposed to be a small length of rubber hose that's run into the engine compartment or something? My heater/AC was disconnected for years before I got the car. Thanks.

I just finished the resto of my 70 RR ac heater box. Hooked the hoses up tonight. After all the hoses are hooked up to the acuators you should have two left. They run through a gromet in the firewall one is short and hooks up just outside the gromet, the other is very long maybe yours was cut. It comes out the firewall then runs with the harness over to the drivers side, then down to the front through the plastic straps and then connects to a can under the battery tray. I beleive that would be your vacum source.

So there are two connections for the vacuum source? I know where the coffee can under the battery tray is, but where does the short hose get connected to again?

That is right, 2 hoses with a grommet attached goes through the firewall, the long hose goes to the can under the battery. The short hose goes to the intake manifold vacuum nipple in the #7 runner. That is the vacuum source, the can under the battery is for vacuum storage.

Dang is THIS what this hose and grommet is for (red arrows)? I always seen this length of hose hanging but I never knew what the heck it was for. I never wanted to yank it without finding out first, but then I forgot all about it...

what year is your car ? 68/9 is different than 70 .

that hose connects to the little pipe coming off the tube where the source for the power brakes comes from on the back of the manifold .

Car in question is a 68 B-Body, no power brakes.
Rob you don't happen to have a pic of how it looks running to the manifold do you? I know it's already been stated where it's located, just wanted to see the stock location and the correct nipple since currently my intake is an aftermarket Edelbrock RPM for smallblock.

as said the pic above is a 70 so it's different at the firewall .

not sure but there may be a nipple that has just the small tube ? otherwise it would be the 3/8 nipple , capped , with one small tube coming off it .
