Hi all,

In the picture below (340 Six Pack/auto), are the spring ends in the correct positions on the throttle shaft or should they be reversed? I see them both ways on the internet and I am sure they will function either way, just curious as to the correct positions. Thanks

Based on several factors I'd say the spring as shown in your photo is backwards.

1) The natural tendency of the kick down (green) spring is to be centered and not bind with anything, reversing the order will allow this
2) The throttle return (orange) spring has a long straight section that allows it to ride in close proximity to the kick down plate without interfering or binding
3) See attached drawing from the parts manual for 1970

Now, that all said is it possible that some line worker delivered some, or many, not per the engineering design, absolutely, but I'd stick to the drawing.

I was thinking the same thing also. I noticed that the kickdown spring was rubbing against the kickdown plate when I set mine up like in the first picture. Otherwise the picture I posted shows what appears to be a very original/correct 340 Six Pack so I was wondering.
Thanks for the reply and the excellent diagram. thumbs

The image is actually a 340 4bbl, but the kick down will be identical for a 6 bbl.

Sounds good. I went out and corrected the springs on mine already.
I notice the throttle spring is now more in line (square) to the throttle shaft. thumbs
