You would have to have a custom input made
BUT I dont know you would have enough space
in the bell housing unless you add a spacer...
so is it worth it for just a conv

Isn't that the problem with the 727? The converter is to shallow.

To some extent but a good 727 conv will work
great for a lot of years.. just have it built
right.. the biggest issue is when using a lock
up conv.. they dont have a lot of space for a
good disc set up
EDIT
but thats on the lock up trannies(not the 727)
wave

Trans needs to be spaced back 1" to use the different GM cores. I'm sure any convertor company can build one.

Would this help with high horsepower Mopar combos? I have talk to a couple converter company's and the say that you need to use a power glide or 400 to get the right converter.

Won't fit. And as already covered is one of the many weaknesses of the 727 in a higher power application

What ET are you planning on running? Plenty of 8,9,10 second cars running the thinner Mopar converters. I have to believe you could modify a 727 to run a 400 converter, but why would you? If you feel the need for a TH400 sized converter why not use a TH400 or a glide?

First thing i want to say is...I have a lot of respect for monte smith(he's got alot of my money and did the job that he was paid to do)....but man he does come across as a hater sometimes...Pred heads suck compared to the big chief head....727 tranny's suck....thank gosh i don't listen to him in that department....Cause i have pred heads, still running a 727...with a coan converter...and had to get a 1/2' mid plate spacer for the converter to fit..Once again this post is not a slam....its just what i know what works for me............I RACE.....

Predator heads are NOT as good as a big chief head. The best converters won't fit inside a 727 without a spacer (as you have done). So what did I say that was incorrect?...........or have you just been hitting the Jack hard tonight?

Monty is Monty.
Such is life. Some people you like some you don't. Some rub you the wrong way some don't.
Is he opinionated? yes but hes seen more that most in racing. He knows what works and what doesn't.
Race whatever you want and do whatever you want but I have realized that the Mopar parts are drying up and there is more economical way of putting power to the ground.
Who knows what we will be able to build 10 years from now.

Matt.....the issue is twofold. One, I am blunt and to the point. I don't sugar coat anything and if you don't want to know what I think, don't ask. Guys ask for opinions and don't hear what they want to is not my problem, it's theirs. When many ask for opinions, they have their mind made up, they just want somebody to agree with them. When you don't agree, you are a hater or an azzhole.

Secondly, I don't worship at the mighty altar of Mopar. I am not one of those die hard delusional people that think everything Chrysler ever built was the best and can't be improved on. I am about results and if using something from another manufacturer produces better results, as it relates to money spent, or performance, that's what I suggest. I could care less what the name emblazoned on it is. This opinion does NOT make me less of a Mopar guy. It makes me a guy striving to make my Mopar better. Guys don't agree, or see it that way, I don't care. It's my opinion and am entitled to have it and share it.

And then we have the ones who want to pick a fight just because. The OP of this thread asked a question and it was answered. I agreed with others that posted the same answer but I am the hater......LOL!!! Similar to the thread about "build me a 9in rear". You WANTED a 9", I agreed and was labeled a hater by the Dana fan boys........LOL!!!

It's all good though. None of it bothers me. Plus, most of the threads I comment in, is because someone sends me a PM and asks me to take a look and comment. Because believe it or not, I usually have other things I could be doing than hanging out here.............LOL!!!

Didn't a company called JVX used to build a spacer for the 727 just for this purpose? They had lots of cool stuff for 727 applications, but I haven't heard anything from them in a while.

As said above
Monte is Monte.
I like him, I respect him, I enjoy talking with him.
We often have differing opinions and views, and we often disagree. It's not a contest, and there is no ill will. I've learned a great deal from people on this site and others who have been able to support their opinions with experiences, facts, and examples.

Not as bad as you think. A little torsion bar crossmember clearancing/fab work to clear the end of the trans. and some selective shaping of the trans tunnel sheetmetal in a few spots with a 10 lb sledge. I have a T400 in my 70 Road Runner and have done this. A Glide would be even easier as it is physically smaller than the T400.
