P.S. I know the book says .028/.032 just checking if anybody has any tips, hints to making it run better.
Start at the factory settings. If you need more low end loosen the lash a litttle.More top end tighten it a little.

There was a post a couple days ago. Was named "Tight valve lash" They were using less than recommended. I would leave the exh a couple thousands looser being it runs hotter.
Yeah, it's got a smallblock.

I think you have it backwards. Tighten the lash is like advancing the cam which will help the low end and loosen the lash is like retarding the cam to help top end.
I have run the MP .557 at .024 and my car seems to like it. It calls for .028 and .032. Ron

I ran mine at .024/.026. Iron heads tho.
Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

No actually when you loosen the lash it retards the cam timing which can help top end depending on where the cam is at. When you tighten the lash its like advancing the cam timing and moving the power band lower hence more low end. Ron

I set both the intake and the exhaust the same, most because I'm lazy and don't want to keep up with the 2 different feeler gauges. I just pick something in the middle and go with it. So if it's .028 and .032 I just use .030. I just bracket race so it's not that important. Just keep them set and make sure they aren't moving is what is important to me.

Ron thats an interesting thought pattern. However, when you loosen the lash you are retarding the valve opening event ,AND advancing the closing event meanwhile reducing the overall valve open duration. Therefore making the cam seem smaller to the engine. The reason your motor responds well to the tightened lash is it wants a bigger cam, or duration at least.
