Sorry, I know this has been covered at some time, but I just cant find it via searching. Wish I would have bookmarked it.
I am trying to assemble what needs to be on the engine for painting on my '68 383 Dart. I need some reference photos of what is correct. Hoping Rhino comes to the rescue.
Passenger side engine mount bracket and rubber, engine color? Drivers side engine mount bracket and rubber, black? Dipstick tube, bare? Since it is bolted to the rear bracket mount, I am thinking the tube may be not painted? Fuel pump, engine color? Temp sender, oil pressure switch, engine color? Anything else bolt on that needs to be on before paint?
Thanks!

Passenger side engine mount bracket and rubber, engine color? No - Black Drivers side engine mount bracket and rubber, black? Yes - same as other mount Dipstick tube, bare? Since it is bolted to the rear bracket mount, I am thinking the tube may be not painted? Fuel pump, engine color? Yes Temp sender not painted, oil pressure switch - only if it is the small non oil pressure gauge sender...if it is the small one, mask off the terminal area before engine painting. Anything else bolt on that needs to be on before paint? Exhaust manifolds.....spark plugs (masked off)
Thanks!

Thanks! I agree with passenger side bracket black, but I have seen the drivers side painted engine color. Dipstick tube can be bare or painted, seen both. I always paint because I don't like bare parts rusting. Fuel pump painted engine color if going for OEM. The oil sender is painted but I hate that. Negative cable is bolted to the open bolt hole on the head near the intake.. See the 69 engine mount below from the GTS registry http://www.gtsregistry1969.com/ref383motormount.jpg

I don't agree that the negative cable is attached above the spring bracket, should be in the bolt hole in the head NEAR the spring bracket.

Thanks for the feedback. Would have figured the temp sensor was in before paint, but easy enough to remove now. For the negative cable, agree on the throttle bracket? If yes, over or under the bracket? Over goes towards the water pump housing and under goes up towards the valve cover. I tried both ways and both look good. The lug end fits fine either way.
Oh and then the negative ground strap on passenger rear. I would think this is installed before paint as well. Need to find that cable in my stash.....
Amazing, all the photos I have taken over the years, you would think I could get a consensus on these things. Every engine compartment looks different now that I study them. If I'm mistaken the emissions tag on your car is on the wrong side

I do have a question, do you have the console tach? If so that wire coming out of the fire wall withe the gray female spade, where does that go?

If I'm mistaken the emissions tag on your car is on the wrong side None of photos are my cars, just ones I have photographed or found on the net. I took a look at a pic of my car before teardown. Label is on right/passengers side inner fender. BTW, my car was missing the engine, which is the reason for all the questions.

Then it is just another factory mistake... I'll keep my factory mistake when putting my label back on. Makes setting timing that much easier, quick reference

Makes setting timing that much easier, quick reference I hear ya there, my 69 GTS had a DART SWINGER stripe on one side and a GT SPORT stripe on the other! I am assuming you mean the heater hose nipples coming out of the water pump housing, they were painted when the engine was before the hoses got put on. Now have a good talk with Galen about the 68 fender tags put on 180 degrees off...
