Hey guys looking where to start with one of these.

I have a NA, 4spd car. I'll probably never run any sort of power adder.
I doubt I'll ever use 8egt sensors as well, but plan on input sensor, 4
shock travel sensors. Using an MSD 7AL2, soon to be grid setup.

So what do I need? Can I get by with a Sportsman kit or do I need the V300?

With the sample rate between the two mean much in my setup? Will the
Sportsman handle all the needed sensors?

And does any know if you have to purchase additional Clutch software with
the V300 they have std and lite software available.

I don't know anything about them so kind of looking to be schooled.
Thank you.

I like my sportsman, works great! Removable SD card is a plus. I don't have to plug the computer into it to download runs. I'm still learning and haven't taken it to the next(o2's, EGT's)level though...

I went the way of a logger dash.Comes with water temp, oil pressure and shift light output wire. The shiftlite I bought. Then I chose what sensors I wanted.
Have to download after every recording. I have recorded idle, cruse and WOT.

HEMI-ITIS has no cure.
My condition is fully BLOWN!!

It used to be that a Sportsman could not log shock sensors. It did not have the analog channels to do so. I believe they have resolved that issue. The other big difference is the number of channels available to you. The Sportsman with the fewest followed by the V300 and V500. But as I say I think that has been addressed. But ask Racepak to be sure. They actually have a discussion board on their website that is good.

As for the clutch they make everything, I would guess it depends on what you want to monitor. Once again ask Racepak.

I don't feel an EGT does much good at all in an NA deal. It basically just tells you if that cylinder is working or not. No tuning info IMO. Now on a power adder or alcohol car then I think there is good info there to tune with. O2 sensors will be a much bigger help tuning the car.

You might look at Racepak's site. Lots of information there and the discussion board is manned by tech there.

Yeah I've spoke with Racepak at their tech trailer. Knowledgeable guys. Just somewhat trying to get a feel for what others are using. I just don't want to buy a sportsman then run out of capability.

The sportsman has 21 channels vs 64 for the V300, then plus the sampling rate at 100/sec vs 1000/sec.

There just seems to be so many options, then a couple aftermarket companies selling packages as well.

Thanks again for the input.

What about the RPM stuff?

I have been looking at that, not sure how good it is.

Sample rates are 10x series stuff but IMO for the average guy that is not a huge issue. You may inquire about the shock stuff. I know that was an issue for a SProtsman and the reason we have used V300's. I have run the stuff since 2010 and been very happy with it. The Sportsman is upgradeable and can ad more channels. We have one in the heads up car and not any issue, but no shock data....
