Funny you should mention that . I just watched the chase scene on you tube a couple nights ago, for the first time in about 30 years . What I find amazing is this chase scene went on for like 40 minutes and that Mustang got the holy hell beat out of it , and just kept going and going. Several accidents happened that were not even planed like hitting the light pole at 100 miles an hour . From what I have read, only ONE stunt car was used for the entire chase . Ford motor company built 'em tuff in 1971 ( 73).

I'll have to watch it, thanks. Have only seen the 2000's remake, not the original.
I think that yellow fastback from the movie is a '73, actually. '73 had a one year only grille.

Yes and it was badged an R/T as well.
Its a bit ironic I watched it again just two nights ago.
Loved the retag scenes, looks like moparts resto section :0) Yes ! I was thinking the exact same thing . From reading recent posts here ...this is how 50 % of the Moparts members "restore" their cars. Kind of scary Greg

He was killed while filming another movie, I forget the name. A cable was hooked by a vehical, or the cable broke. The cable was hooked to a tall pole, the pole fell on the guy. Halinic or some such name, I'll look it up. H.B. Halicki http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071571/ the search

His death; >>>click here<<<and here; http://articles.latimes.com/1989-08-21/local/me-655_1_car-crash-moviesWitnesses told police that Halicki, 48, of Gardena, died when a cable that was attached to a water tower snapped and severed a telephone pole, which fell on him.

They used a 71 Mustang and changed some cosmetics to appear as a '73 . Yep, you're right. Checked the wikipedia page and it mentions the grille swap. Looking closer it has the '71 running lights in addition to the '73 marker lights in the grille. They apparently put a full rollcage in it, regardless the beating that poor car took is the worst I've ever seen and still have it run afterwards. I can't believe it's still a drivable car!!!!
