Are all 68 Chargers supposed to have Sill Molding on the rocker panels?
The Paul A. Herd Charger, Roadrunner, & Super Bee Restoration Guide says that they are, but I know that there are errors in the book, and I suspect this is an error.
His book says... "Rocker Panel moldings were also standard on all Charger models. The 1968s used part numbers 2932180 (right hand) and 2932181 (left hand). This is the same molding that was used on the 1968-70 Coronet two-door body styles, and it will interchange. All 1969 & 1970 Chargers except the 1969 Charger 500 and Daytona models used a different set of moldings, part numbers 2933914 (right hand) and 2933915 (left hand), and they won't interchange with earlier model. Neither the 1969 Charger 500 nor the Daytona used a rocker panel molding. 1970 Charger 500 did use rocker moldings."
Unlike Drip Rail Moldings, Belt Moldings, or Wheel Well Moldings, the Sill Moldings are listed as an option in the Ordering Information booklet.
http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/_1968-DealershipsOrderingInfo.shtml?load_img=1I also found the following info online, and it seems believable, though I can't vouch for its accuracy.
"Sales code 529 - "sill mouldings" were a $20.45 option on '68 Chargers, less than 1000 were ordered with them. 1/9 (9 under 1) on a fender tag."
If that's true, then I HAVE seen a 68 Charger fender tag which was not coded for them.
This 1968 fender tag decoding site seems to indicate that 9 under 1 IS for wide sill moldings.
Interestingly, it also indicates that 4 under 1 is for sill moldings.
Does anyone know what is the difference between Sill Moldings & Wide Sill Moldings?
http://www.andy440.com/tag.htmLooking through my 1968 Dodge Fever dealership brochures, I don't see any Chargers that have Sill Molding.
I'm not really sure what it would look like, but I expect it to be shiny and located on the rocker panel.
With all of that said, I'm left with a few questions...
Were all 1968 Chargers supposed to have Sill Molding? (probably not?)
What does the 1968 Charger Sill Molding look like?
Is the 1968 Charger Sill Molding identical to Coronet 2 door Sill Molding & different from later Charger Sill Molding as the Paul A. Herd book suggests?
Typically I've found that his part numbers are correct, but when he says that a part won't interchange, it could be as simple as just using different clips to hold it on or something like that.
He is showing different part #'s for 68 vs 69, so what's the difference?
Finally, If I decide to put Sill Moldings onto my recently purchased 68 Charger, is the correct style available reproduction? I wouldn't want to put the wrong year of moldings on my car, and I'm not yet sure how to tell them apart.
It seems that most vendors list their rocker moldings as fitting all 68-70 B bodies.
Thanks!
