Does anyone have a source for the correct Cuda shaker hood trim ring attaching nut? Are they painted body color or left natural finish?
Thanks

I don't think there is anything special about them. Just a captured star washer nut with coarse thread (in most cases). I found some at AC hardware.

They get painted.

They didn't always get completely painted (although I'm sure that was the plan) many times you will see paint fading to primer and even bare metal around the trim ring hole. The nuts are as described above. The correct finish was a plain steel (not bright zinc plated as all reproductions I've seen). If you buy reproductions strip the bright plating off before paint.

*Pic is original paint (and lack thereof)

sbcjd,

Here's a couple pictures of original trim ring nuts that I received from another Moparts member. The nuts are a very soft metal, and are a little thicker (taller) than nuts I’ve found at a general fastener supply store (Ace Hardware, Car Quest, AutoZone, etc.). Most over the counter nuts I’ve found today are thinner looking and zinc plated, as Scott mentioned. If you want the OE look, the only way to achieve that will be to find original nuts.

I’ve seen two types, one with an “S” stamped into it, and others that were plain. And, I’ve also seen them with good paint coverage, and minimal.

iagree Rob is correct.
Originals came with and without the S
Also originals are slightly taller than anything else aftermarket that I have seen.
Plus, the 6 edges are squared on top edges on originals unlike aftermarket.
Original on right

If you have a reproduction trim ring the thread pitch is different than the originals.

I believe the original is 10/24 and the reproductions are 10/32. Not sure if I have that in the right order though.

Plus if you really want to split hairs the knurl on the captive star washer is different in the aftertmarket and the original.
On aftermarket the 12 knurls are flat and more rounded on the edge than originals, which are sharper on edge and have a slight twist on all.
Bad picture but original is on the left.

I do have the original trim ring but my resto shop misplaced the nuts except for the two that is holding the trim ring to the hood. Anyone have a set of the original nuts for sale?
Thanks for all the excellent information!
