I'm sure it has been discussed a thousand times but I'm getting ready to paint the K frame, Upper control arms, sway bar, trans mount, rear end housing, steering linkage, and lower control arms on my 71 challenger convertible. I'm pretty sure everything but the lower control arms are supposed to be black but I don't know what type. I'm not building a trailer queen I'm going to be driving the car everywhere but I want to do it to factory corect looking colors and finishes. I would like to do the lower control arms in a paint that mimics the cosmoline color and I wasn't sure if it was just the end of it that got the coating or the whole arm. Anyway if you guys could help I would appreciate it very much. Anyone that has accurate pictures would also be greatly appreciated.

Here is where you can get paint that looks like cosmoline for the lower control arms. They were dipped and not 100% coated.

Not 100% sure on some of this stuff as far as the exact shades of black. Hopefully someone more experienced will help.

I believe the spindles and steering parts were raw steel and not painted.

Save a lot of black paint, just do the K frame and rear end housing to be correct.

Some good high resolution under car photos of the 2,010 mile '71 Hemi Cuda here:

Note that the sway bar, removable cross member piece under the trans, and the shocks are painted black also. The rear axle housing looks to be glossy black. This car has black painted springs. I think the brake backing plates are phosphated, not painted.
