OK, I would like to paint a set of steel wheels
some color of brown that would be "fairly close"
to the color of the fake woodgrain vinyl on the side.

Any suggestions are appreciated, maybe a paint code, maybe ???

If you have a piece of the wood grain vinyl separated from the car, you can take it to a PPG (or other) paint jobber and have them use the "profit" camera system on the vinyl to determine a close color match.
