I've got doors for a 1990 Dodge truck. Full height plastic door panels. They have built in speaker grills at the bottom and the doors have speaker cutouts.
What size speakers are usually used? The holes look like 6.5"x4.5" - I was wondering if anybody has installed 6"x9" speakers in their doors...?
Where else are good speaker locations? I would like to have four decent speakers that aren't an eye sore

I have 6x9 in the doors and a box behind the seats, sounds good.

Sounds about right. My 90 w150 le had factory 6x9's in doors and some smaller longer, maybe 4x10's ? behind the seat, stuffed into cab corners above seat belt retractors.

Yeah I looked at the doors and it's apparent a 6x9 wont just bolt into the hole. I was told 6x9 but think maybe that was a guess now lol
Thanks!

6x9 for the convenience of availability and price, then front mount them so the factory door panel has no chance of interfering with the speakers and look 100% stock but sound much better. As far as rear speakers, I'm not much help as I have a ramcharger.

Well, I've got a set of 6x9's with watershields from truck doors on the shelf. Maybe they shrunk the speakers in the 90 and up, don't know, haven't had the 93 doors open yet, mostly worked on 83/84. Also have a pair of the behind the seat speakers laying around, could measure them if you want.

Maybe ruderunner meant that the rears were 5x7's. The doors speakers were def. 6x9 in 1990 trucks, as they came with the plastic sheilds over the top side of them from the get go.

My speaker holes are never used, the opening in the door is 6.5"x4.5" so I got some trimming to do. My truck is a 1981 but the doors are from a 1990 I was told, maybe a different year but definitely newer doors.

Could be a 5x7 speaker..

You could check the crutchfield catalog for a replacement speaker.

My 87 has 6x9's in the doors with an enclosure around them. They mount behind the holes in the door.

Well I tucked a couple Alpine Type R 6x9s in Boom Mat waterproof enclosures and they fit in the doors behind the stock panels. Doors had to be trimmed but it was an easy install.. Deck next.

Might look at a second set of speakers, but I don't want to see them.....
