Yep, it does.
That sounds real familiar.
SO,
the neutral button would have activated the safety switch for the starter, and it's in the valve body like later models?
Park also applied it?
O.P. must check the switch at the trans to identify the trouble?
I'm following this now.

A friend just sold a 62 New Port this past summer and he mentioned the park being a brake on the rear of the trans. Don't recall how it applied though.

It was about '76 when I had my '64 New Yorker.
Neat old car. up

Lots of "watch this" handles. whistling

I have mechanical Aptitude.
I can screw up anything.

Hey guys sorry I didn't get back sooner, I replaced the neutral safety switch and it started right up. Thanks for the help.

62 was the first year for the aluminum case and the last year for the tailshaft parking brake. No "Park" in the trans.

It's a one year only trans and the hot setup to put a "modern" 440 and 727 in an extended crank 413 with cast iron Torqueflite car and keep the pushbuttons.

Parking brake was pedal applied.

In '62 only the full-sized cars (Chrysler, Dodge 880) had the tail-mounted parking brake; the B-bodies got the internal Park mechanism activated by a separate cable.
