So - I'm watching the Pomona race/rain-fest and noticed that there is no Rick Stewart. Then I noticed that Mike Dunn said this year the tree is activating (after both drivers are staged) anywhere from .083-1.50. Did Rick lose his job?

I must have missed him - they usually show him a lot - and I never saw him. Then add in Dunn's comment about the .83-1.5 tree start and I thought they got rid of RS.

Get rid of Stewart and let Ashleys cat run the tree.

Russ,
Do you really think Ashley's cat could peer in your window, and give you the "cut-off" sign when you have a leak, or decide when and how to repair a starting line?

I've been Drag Racing for 25 years, and I've never personally seen anyone run the track from the burnout box to the starting line any better.

I could write 4 paragraphs on the good decisions, and great decisions, I've seen him make on the fly, and how many times I've seen him put drivers in thier place when the need arrises.

So go ahead and laugh at the trained monkey in the show, who no longer really throws the switch, but he has my respect and appreciation for the job he does.

The latest and greatest version of Auto Start..It is all part of corporate downsizing. Hey at least they managed to have more than 16 cars in each class at the season opener. Although Inotice there are plenty of new names, old paint/wraps and cars and a definite lack of corporate sponsorship.

I don't know Billy. I've run on a lot of his greatly prepped tracks and I am less then impressed. One he is extremely arrogant and less then personable. Maybe he does great for the pros but he could give two shakes less about the sportsman cars.
We had an incident at Brainerd a couple years ago. We ran superstock right after comp. We followed David Rampy. David had a spray of tranny fluid come out on the launch. My father saw it and grabbed a couple rags and started wiping it up. He proceeded to get chewed out by Rick and told to hurry up and get out of the way. Needless to when the transbrake was let go the car actually hazed the tire and shifted to second gear with the air shifter less then a car length off the starting line. When my father jumped Rick about all he could do was shrug his shoulders and walk away.
Buster Couch was in my opinion twice the starting line official. He too was sometimes groutchy but atleast he was approachable.

After Rick's failed wave off on Tony Schumachers run (that cost Doug Kalitta the championship) it became obvious that Rick could never ever hold a candle to Buster.

His antics are a disgrace.

Did anyone catch the comment about until this year it was a set amount of time after the last stage light and that drivers could hit the tree early to cut better lights??? Did the starter not have the switch then???

"Turbo will be easiest, and at the HP level will also be easiest on parts. Spend the money to do it right, and you can build a 500 HP street motor that will live a long and happy life, and probably with a very basic short block." Those words must have left a bad taste in his mouth!
