Does the manual steering gearbox have a vent or is it completely sealed? I have seen re-manufactured units with a vent and was wondering if there would be any harm done if the vent was removed and an original fill bolt was installed.

I don't know why it would need a vent??? I'm thinking venting is only needed if material is transferring in and out. Tanker truck driver experience talking...

Heating/cooling expansion and contraction of fluid would be my guess.

What little vacuum or pressure would that really create? Enough to need a vent? Do the factory boxes have vents?

My original steering box doesn't have a vent, just the fill bolt. The reproductions and re-manufactured boxes I have seen have a fill bolt with a vent. I am not able to post a picture of it, but if you look on ebay under "New 1966-1979 Mopar Manual Steering Box", you can see the images in the description, the fill bolt has a vent hole in it. I was looking to replace my old steering box with a new one and was wondering if it would make any difference if I replaced the vented fill bolt with the one from my original box.

I can't see any harm, it's filled with grease. You may want to contact the seller, often the pictures aren't 100% accurate.

Followed your link and did not see a single box with a vent !!!

There are 3 top bolts, the adjuster and the filler plug - that's it. No vents.
