I currently have an Earls -12 filter between the pickup and pump, But am concerned about any restriction since I have been having trouble with low oil pressure. The screen in the Earls filter is flat, not conical like it could be made for max filter area. What experience have you had with pre pump filters? I caught that mention of a pre filter for a dry sump from Monte, and hope that has a bigger filter area along with a good sized screen. Any other filters out there that offer very low resistance to flow?

After snapping a few pump drives and nearly killing a few engines (amazing how long it takes to learn some things) I fitted an inline -12 cone style filter, sorry can not remember the name, next oil change the bottom of a valve spring 1/2" long fell out of the filter. A must they are !!!

The type of pump affects how sensitive it is to debris. Scroll & rotor pumps won't tolerate anything, twin gear pumps can ingest 1/16" pieces since there is always space between the gears. For those not familiar (despite some internet diagrams) oil is not pumped between the mating gear teeth, but is captured in the root space between teeth and the pump cavity wall; this space never changes size.

I had Jeff Johnson build me a 10 quart SS type oil pan for the B1 motor I built last year to fit into a stock motor location for a 1963 Plymouth Fury, he recommend two in line screen type cone filters that fit inside the line to the oil pickup ![up up](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/thumbs_up.gif) I can dig out that companies name and contact info in SO CA if you want it I would appreciate that, Cab.!
