Hey guys (and gals)

Slowly getting the 1969 300 dependable after sitting for 10 years. Add to that the fact the car is unrestored and well, there are all sorts of little issues that are needing attention.

Today I am in the process of getting the rear seat heat system working again and I have a few questions:

1 - If you look at the left (passenger) side floor duct where it meets the Y duct, it is short and actually doesn't touch. It doesnt connect to the other duct. Does this look like it was modified at some point, or is this just the right shape but the floor duct was mounted too far over at the factory? Thoughts?

2 - My rear heater core is dripping coolant into the trunk.... is this core available, or similar to something else? I cant seem to find anyone that sells these.

3 - The coolant lines that run from engine bay, down under the car, and up into the trunk....are these available anywhere? I dont have any leaks yet, but after having had pretty much everything else in the cooling system go, and add to that it is a Canadian car, I figure its a matter of time.

And to those that keep asking, yes, I finally got a few pics of the car. For those that dont know, this is the car that I am working on.

Thanks again for all the help and guidance.

Robert

I'm no expert, but the duct looks to just be loose? Push it back on like
the one on the right. Any radiator shop should be able to solder the core.
The lines under the car would probably have to be fabricated (I would go
with stainless) if you can't locate an NOS set.

Looking at the pictures, the passenger side duct is as far towards the center of the car as it's going to go because of that seat bracket. The drivers side looks as if you could move it towards the pass, side. Get the core out and take it to Napa and see if they have or can get something. If not, radiator shop as suggested above. Nice looking 300!

Very cool car, love the lines looks clean.

I have no idea if anyone makes a repop heater core but I'd definitely hit Glen-ray up and they can fix the original which would probably be better.

That's a beautiful looking car Robert. I'd hope that will never see an salted roads. With that said I see you mentioned "dependable" in the original post. My suggestion would just block off coolant flow to the rear system.

I had a New Yorker with rear heat and ac. They both leaked on me too.

No, its for sure not loose. Its not just a matter of pushing it in. If I could have done that, I would have. Thats why I am asking.

The left and right cant change much as the notch under the seat has spacing for the ducts in a very specific spot. So not sure I can change the left to right movement of these ducts.

I will also look up fine lines. Thanks for that!

Sorry if I had you worried there because I want the rear heat working. No, this is not to see winter use. But I do drive it up until the first salting and I do like having everything work as it should.... And reliably at that. I know it will get there. Just a bit of time and parts... For the moment, I do have it blocked off.

I'd bet the gap in the ducting is due to plastic shrinkage over 45+ years. You could fabricate a flexible accordion style joint out of duct tape & wire similar to the square A/C ducts in the dash of a similar vintage b-body & attach with a couple of small screws.

What material & diameter are the front to rear coolant lines?

Most likely never fit right from the factory limited option & line experience,I would loosen all up @ attempt to align properly, have the heater core recored,as fare as the lines your going to have too reproduce as best possible.

Another vote to send the original core to Glen Ray for repair. They will do it right the first time and even though it will cost some $$$, at least you'll only be doing it once with these guys. Can't say anything bad about them other than they stand behind their work -- and the original tanks that were used back in the day are the best there are and the heater matrix is very repairable with the right guys doing the work. You cannot go wrong with Glen Ray, and no, I'm not the owner -- just a guy whose had them do three different cars radiators and heater cores for me. Turned out perfect every time.......

Good luck on that gorgeous car!!!!!!!!!
