GoDartGo OP pro stock G Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,527 Michigan	I have two, 4 planetary gears (front and back) for a 904 type trans. No transmission. how can I tell if they are the low gear set?

Look at the front half of the sun gear, if it is bigger than the back half, it is a 2.74 low gear. BB65Barracuda super stock B Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 926 MICHIGAN	The 6 cylinder trannys have the lo gear set and ork in the 727. I ran them in a small block barracuda. made a noticeable difference. 1957 Power wagon wm300 original 10.000 mile truck, 1964 dodge Polara Convertible numbers matching

'63 Dodge 330 11.19 @ 121 mph Pump gas, n/a, through the mufflers on street tires with 3.54's. 3,600 lbs. 10.01 @ 133mph with a 250 shot of nitrous an a splash of race gas. 1.36 60 ft. 3,700 lbs.

Supercuda About to go away Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 14,889 up yours	There was someone that took the 904 low gear set and managed to make it fit the 727 with a lot of machining and splicing of 904/727 parts and welding. But stock? Nope There are aftermarket low gear sets for the 727, but not cheap. They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.

dogdays I Live Here D Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 16,376	For some of the young'uns in the crowd...Mopar engineers were fighting a losing battle as the death-spiraling company had outdated cars and there wasn't much money to develop new parts like an overdrive auto transmission, at least not an inexpensive one. But they still had to meet CAFE regulations or pay a fine per car sold. So they "faked" an overdrive by installing 2.45 or 2.29 gears in the rear. The car was ALWAYS in a sort of overdrive. To get the car to start rolling with a 130 hp 318 or a 95 hp 225, they put deeper First gears in the transmission. This could be done on the cheap. If they help or not on the dragstrip depends mostly on the car and to some extent on the driver. R.
