My friends have been bugging me to start racing again. So I will take my Charger to the track on Saturday.
1968 Charger R/T bone stock with power steering and fully restored to show quality.
It has a pretty good shortblock, true 10,5 compression. Mopar 284 purple shaft :-) installed straight up Edelbrock RPM heads 82 cc not ported. Edelbrock torker 440 (the only intake I have that will clear the hood) Holley 750 Vacuum secondary (from my old Super Stock engine) TTI 2 inch Headers (to big I know) Converter is a super cheap Dacko? 2500 stall Original 8 3/4 with 3.23 limited slip M/T 9x28 slicks Transmission is overhauled but stock. An old Mallory dual points with all new parts in it(works great)
I hope it would run mid 13 sec and 105 mph.
What do you guy´s think?
I know it´s not a good combination for the strip but it works great on the street :-)
Thanks

I think your guess is pretty close.
I think it would be easy 12's with 3.91's or 4.10's. Might still do it with 3.23's, but that's not much gear with a 28" tire.

Yes I too think with the gear and that cam you will be around 14. Just for comparison when I had the 10.5-1 440 in my car with an Xtreme .545 hydraulic cam, 4.30's and a 750 AED carb, I was running basically 13 flat around 103 and that was at around 4250 pounds. Good air days it would dip into the 12.90 range.
1971 Plum Crazy Super Bee. 572 World Aluminum block with a Cope 727 & Dana 4.10 out back. 9.88 @ 138 with a 1.35 60 NA. Dialed back to 10.0’s. 4000 lbs with me in it.

I had a very similar combo. Same heads, sane cam, 8.5:1, performer RPM, stock converter, 3.91 gear in a 65 B body.
Ran a best of 12.80@110mph.
I think the gear will and intake will hurt you, but compression will help.
Should go low 13s

13.1 @ 104....ish
Bring spring kit for the VS holley, too tight and you'll lose several tenths, too loose and it will bog.

You need a real converter, I don't trust what you've got. A real 3000 or 3500 stall and 4.10s would make that car run much stronger than it will now IMO.
Now I need to pin those needles, got to feel that heat Hear my motor screamin while I'm tearin up the street

Mid-80's.....1971 Charger R/T with the original engine long gone. Owner wants a big block in it.....but the budget is very tight. I re-ring a 400, put some quicky bowl blended 516's on it, mp484 cam, Holley SD, 650dp Holley, cheap 1 3/4 headers, dynamic 10" converter, 4.10 gears, 10 x 28" slicks. 3950lbs race weight, went mid-13's 104-105....... And did it for years and years(like 17 or 18 years) before the motor got replaced with an E headed 446, which ran upper 11's.

You might be better off with a stock 440 intake with that converter. It has been 44 years since I had my 69 , but this what I remember. Stock short block stock heads and stock cam 69 charger with a Holley 3310 750 , 2 inch open headers with collectors . It had a stock converter, 3.91 gears and 28 inch tall slicks and went a best of 13.06 at 103 mph with the stock intake. Try shifting at 5500 and work from there. I also remember getting my but kicked for the first 200 feet on the street by a 318 Duster with headers when I added a hydraulic crane cam with 284/290(?) duration to that same setup.

What is the rest of the exhaust system, and will you keep the full exhaust on at the track?
What is your anticipated DA?
And, does the car leave hard now?
For me, the biggest variable is the quality of your initial tune.
The car should run a 1.9-ish sec. 60 ft with that gear and small slick. Maybe a little better. That motor should pull a 4000 lb B-Body to 109 - 110 mph. You put those together, and a <2000 DA that is well into the 12s, Like 12.70 - 12.60.
First time out, my guess is low 13's at 106 mph.
I agree with Wize on the VS springs. You might find that less spring than what works on the street will give a better et. You'll be in 1st gear a long time and the vacuum signal to the secondaries is slow to build.
Also, In my experience, shift point really matters on lower power street cars that are not back into the converter on shift recovery.
Between the secondary spring and shift point, you might find 3 or 4 tenths and a few mph in your first outing.
Good luck!

Mid to high 13's. Lighten it up as much as possible. Spare tire, sub box, tool box, whatever else isn't bolted down. Tune as stated earlier. If you have mufflers and dump pipes in front of the rear axle, yank that off, too.

My Holley is making me nuts, it wont run without pushing on the accelerator pump all the time. It seem to have a problem with fuel distribution in the airhorns. So I will use my good working Carter AVS original 1968 440 carb, it works great and I'll tune it on the track, I have my big box of jets with me.
I will put together a really good race combination this winter, I have some stage6 heads that was on my dyno mule from Mopar Performance.
Talk to you later after the TT/bracket race :-)
Thanks
