This has to do with another thread discussing the weights/perfomance of a couple of cars.

I'm curious, how many here have actually weighed their stock 'Cuda/Challengers?

There's a mis-conception that these cars weigh almost as much as a B-body when, in fact, my experience has been that they're lighter than a lot of A-bodies!

Please post your actual (not guesstimated!) weights!

'71 Cuda with A/C, P/S, Console, Buckets, full undercoat = 3,260 lbs.

Same car with 440 a/c compressor removed = 3,440 lbs.

My '74 cuda with a 400/727, 8 3/4, no a/c, no spare, no carpet or back seat was 3410 on Milan Dragway's crappy scale. the Title says 3210 w/sb, a/t, a/c, ps, pb, so.......... ?

At 3260 I think you need to double check that against another scale.

Why not?

SB = 3260
BB = 3440

What doesn't add up about that?!

They were both done at the local grain elevator and my truck has been on multiple elevator scales and weighed the same.

180 lbs diff with 150 being the BB and 30 or so being the 904 to 727?

I think the difference between the two is accurate, but my experience (for what it's worth), is that both are about 200lbs. heavier than that.

3500lbs with 1/2 tank of gas. Small block with aluminum heads & intake. TTI headers, power steering, stock three row radiator. 8 3/4 rear end. No AC. 5- speed Tremec, supposed to be about 25 lbs. lighter than 833 4- speed. The bucket seats aren't stock, but they are similar in weight. Car was weighed on a grain scale certified accurate to +or- 20 lbs. FWIW my old '74 Duster after significant dieting came in at 3380lbs. on the same scale with the same fuel load. Both weights are minus driver.

I understand about "little things". I did quite a few to my Duster to get the weight down, nothing readily visible, but I still took at least 150 lbs. if not more out of it. Keep in mind my cars are four season cars that get driven regularly except for ice, snow and generally rotten weather, so heaters, windshield wipers etc. are necessary. I don't need a stereo [engine sounds pretty good going up or down the gears ], but I have one anyway. I also forgot to mention that both cars had frame connectors. All things considered I think my weights are pretty representative of what a person could expect from these cars in a truly streetable condition.
Obviously if you get serious a lot more weight can be removed. A friend of mine got over 500lbs. out of his '72 Road Runner.

I don't doubt the accuracy of your number but your car sounds heavy compared to
1970 Barracuda (Cuda Clone)
440 W/Iron heads
Aluminum intake
26 inch mopar rad
manual steering
manual drum brakes
Aluminum (Centerline wheels)
No sway bar
Frame connectors
8.75 rear
727 TF
No fiberglass
1/2 tank gas
No driver

Weighed on certified +/- 10 pound scale 3450

No question about it, my car is heavier than I would like it to be. That's just the way it is. Obviously a big block with iron heads is a good deal heavier than a small block with aluminum heads and intake. So where's the difference? Well here are a few possibilities. Power steering vs. manual; big difference. Disc brakes with 11.75 rotors vs. drums; some difference. 1.25 front anti-roll bar vs. none; it matters. Not all 26 in. radiators are the same. My Duster had a two row 26 in. radiator that was much lighter than the 26 in. three row in the 'Cuda. I thought about using the two row, but this was my first experience running aluminum heads on an iron block and I could just see getting stuck in traffic on a 100* day, so I chickened out and went with the three row. Last I am not sure just when they started putting door guard beams in the doors, but I definitely have them and the doors are heavy. Maybe somebody else has some ideas. All I can say is that in my experience "E" bodies weigh more than late '60s "A" bodies. About the same as late '60s "B" bodies, and less than '71 up "B" bodies. This of course assumes comparing cars with similar options.

Your first post doesn't say that the '71 is a SB. it makes a little more sense now that you clarified that.

Mine was almost identical in equipment save for cast iron intake and no subframe connectors (probably cancel each other out). Oh yeah, added P/S to boot.

Most of them have a cage and subframe connectors as well. That adds at least +/- 150?

My experience has always been that Challengers will be heavier as well. I don't really know why either.

Thanks for posting this. I don't know if we're all that much closer to a definative answer, but it IS interesting.

I'm thinking that the discrepancies are to do with options, modifications AND different scales. I'm gonna weigh my Super Bee and my Cuda on certified CAT scales in the spring.

I have to agree that it's pretty hard to believe that GY3's undercoated A/C car could be 3260. I'm NOT questioning anybodies honesty, but I think the scale was probably off.

Cheers,
Dave

Everything else being equal a Challenger should weigh more than a Barracuda since they have two inches more wheelbase. FWIW I think this also gives them a little better weight distribution. Of course on a real race car overall weight and weight distribution can vary considerably from production.

The car was weighed (in smallblock form) in Newton, KS for the 3260 at the grain elevator and (in BB form) in Valley Center, KS at the grain elevator.

The difference of 180 lbs. is right on from what I've seen from other cars going from SB/904 to BB/727.
