Has any one cleaned and striped a plastic dash gauge cluster?

Years ago at mopar nats a vender had used dashes that were bleach white clean. I asked what they used cause it didn't harm the plastic; it removed all the paint and chrome. They replied Purple degreaser. I tried it and it didn’t work for me.

Any ideas?

I have never done a dash but glass bead works well to strip some types of plastic, just lower the pressure some and experiment on the back of the dash first to get a feel for it. DO-NOT use sand !!!

Believe it or not you can get most plastics brilliantly clean by immersing/soaking them in a warm caustic soda tank, it cooks off anything except the plastic itself. The Hydrogen Peroxide/Oxyclean/UV exposure method does work on many yellowed/white plastics, but not all, best results are with ABS, it has little effect on Polyolefins .

Ammonia will strip the chrome plating.
