It may depend on the model year, so I will use 1970 as an example;

/6 engines - 3-speed without syncros.

V8 engines - 3-speed with syncros.

Actually I think Mopar used at least 3 types in the 60's and 70's. The 6 cylinder ones are very light weight and physically much smaller than the V8 ones.

I have several of the A745 trannies for my 65 Fury. Small block and big Block are different in 65 as the 1st gear ratios are different. Much easier to find the small block ones.

Most of not all of the A745s I looked at had destroyed gears because 1st is not synchronized in these trannies.

The T85's that came behind the early Max Wedge cars are worth big bucks.

Mike- New Process three speeds pre-1970 are a non synchro first gear. 1970-up are synchro. The odd ball "rare" New Process three speed is the one that came behind a 383/4bl. It has larger bearings and a close ratio gear set, which sets it apart from others that came behind a /6 or 318 car. As most buyers paid the few extra $$ for the 4 speed, and for the few 3 speed cars-many were swapped out for 4 speeds and the 3 speed discarded- makes this trans not very common (big bearing/close ratio one). We have one of these transmissions: came out of a 1970 FC7 Challenger which used to be a pace car at the Flemington NJ speedway back in the day. Car was cut up in 1982 or so, and we picked it up back then. Used it in a 1970 NYer and my 1967 Newport over the years.

How to ID one will be the bearing retainer and the first gear ratio. The bearing retainer will be the same as. 23 spline 4 speed. Cannot recall the first gear ratio, but it will be tall (low numerically), something like 2.90 (vs 3 and change in a wide ratio one)
