Has anyone installed the Aeromotive Phantom 340 Stealth EFI pump kit in their 64' B-body gas tank? (Or other early B-body car?) Been looking at options for an in-tank EFI pump and am zeroing in on this option. I considered a surge tank option but think I will just bite the bullet and put the pump in the tank. The Aeromotive set up looks like a good way to go, but I wonder if I will be able to install it directly on the top of the tank like the installation videos show, or whether I will have to put a notch in the tank first. I do not want to cut the trunk floor and question if I will be able simply put spaces on top of the tank to lower it enough to provide clearance between the trunk floor and the top of the pump assembly. I think I will put the pump near the right front corner of the tank for easy access for routing the supply and return lines. I will use the existing 3/8" line for the return and run a new -6 or -8 supply.

FYI I'm leaning towards the FiTech Go8 Power Adder system. I want to be able to program and control ignition timing and the EFI in one unit. I'm tired of constantly fiddling with my Demon carb and where I live I change altitude significantly no matter which direction I go.

HemiSportFury,

I just purchased the EFI8 and I also purchased an EFI tank from tanks inc.
I believe if you use the Phantom pump you have to use 1 inch spacers. You can call Aeromotive to make sure. Depending on the horsepower the 3/8 steel line might be okay for the return. Be careful on selecting the proper hose ID for the supply. Fitech uses 3/8 pushlok hose which is 3/8 ID. I went with 8an for the supply because the ID on braided Teflon hose is smaller compared to regular braided an hose.

I probably will go with a -8 line also. Been looking at filters and it looks like a -8 would be better as the filter media gets finer. FiTech calls for a 30 micron minimum so I may go with a 10 micron filter to ensure the fuel is clean. Tanks, Inc does not make an EFI tank for the '64 B-body. When I take the tank down I will look closely to see how much clearance I might be able to get, but I'm pretty much planning on putting a notch in the tank. I will be able to do most of the fab work and just will need to find someone to do the final tig welding. I'm sure my mig welding would have pin holes in it.

Would still like to hear from anyone else that has been down this path. I'll take pictures of my tank modifications for future reference. I may wind up doing this to my other '64 also, although it runs pretty good with a Holley Street Avenger on it.

Here's my 64 with an EFI HEMI.

I had trouble getting an intank pump to work so I added a rear sump and mounted the fuel pump inline on the drivers side frame rail. Never had a problem and this approach allowed me to add a large flow inlet filter before the pump.

That is a sweet looking car! What kind of problems did you have with an in-tank pump? Everything I'm reading about EFI says that's the way to go?

In-tank is better, but it stuck out the top of the tank such that I was either going to have to recess the location in the tank or cut a hole in the trunk. The sump was just easy and the tank fit flush with the trunk floor without any cutting.

Here's a picture of the Stealth pump installed in the tank. I made the cut in the tank and the insert and then took it to a local sheet metal shop to weld in. Overall, pretty simple to do.
