If installed correctly they won't wad up, every one i have changed out never had a wrinkle in them. If installed correctly , having the tire desoaped, is that a word? [ cleaned and dry ] then use lots of tire talc to keep the tube from binding you'll have no problem.

OK then - have you ever seen one ripped? I saw a really nice 68 Cuda almost eat a wall and there was no evidence as to why, until he got home and decided to check the tube.

i tried no tubes in my 65 plymouth for 1 season, every week the slicks were flat. car is on the lift now getting a engine swap and just took the slicks off and put tubes back in.couldnt take the hassle of airing them up every weekend.
just hope the tube doesnt blow again this year.

Mine hardly loses air (maybe its the no screws)

I think 8 lbs per square inch will firmly hold them in case i go drifting

this has me wondering if i should pull the tubes out of my slicks.

the left rear goes flat in about 4 days and the right rear hasnt lost a lb.

could i use bead sealer to help seal the bead to the wheel, and then some silicone on the wheel screws to ensure no/ less leaks?

what would i use as far as a valve stem? would a regular(free) rubber one work from my job, or do i need a special one? which is prefered.

probably going to make the switch soon depending on answers!

John

For your car I would run(and do) the M/T ET Street Bias plys or the ET STreet Radails, as large as you can fit in the car. I don't use tubes in the bias ply tires and the radials don't need them. As far as wadding up a tube in the car after it was mounted correctly I have done that with Mr Murphys help, I let the pressure down to low and bingo on that run it wadded up the tire and starting shaking like a bad dog in high gear It took a while to figure that one out the tire was in balance before the run and no weights had come off the rim and it was really out of balance after that run I quit using tubes in drag slicks under the advise of the Firestone tire guys at the races back in 1978. I have also split a tube in high gear in a stick shift Hemi car in 1976 , no fun on that run either, I thought I was going to mess the piant and body work up big time Good luck on your decision, no matter waht it is

I run tubes now, but did not for along time, I really think it depends on how hard your set up hits the tire. In extreme we can not run the w tire so i run the "s" for two seasons without tubes (maybe 7 or 8 sets) then added tubes, did not see any big et gain but seen more constant 60 and 330 foot times, way better to tune on

Hoosier Quick Time Pro's. No screws. No tubes. No dish soap. No loss of air. No problems whatsoever.

There are several problems you can run into with tubes and if you do not run screws with tubes you are crazy. Unless of course if you run excessive air pressure all the time. But what fun is that??
